The overall effect of quilts that have a secondary design are a perfect example of the axiom, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts!" As you view these special quilts, you'll enjoy identifying the basic block as well as noting how the individual blocks create an overall pattern. Sometimes the secondary pattern is formed with strong lines, and sometimes with color placements.
